Accessibility
In order to remove barriers to patrons making full use of our resources, the Archives seeks to comply with The Accessibility for Manitobans Act and align with the Library’s Accessibility Policy and Guidelines. Due to the unique nature of archival records, however, our accommodations may differ somewhat from the Library's.
Physical Accessibility in the Reading Room
The Archives Reading Room is located in 5C02 on the 5th floor of the library, which may be reached by the library’s elevator. The Archives does not currently have an automatic door opener, but there is a doorbell and staff will open the door if required.
The Reading Room is equipped with a height-adjustable, wheelchair-accessible work table.
Our Resources: Alternative Formats
Many of our resources are digitized, categorized as “Online Collections” in our subject pages. The Archives "Online Collections" are discoverable in different platforms or databases which are WCAG compatible to varying degrees. For information about third-party WCAG compatibility, please visit these vendors' websites:
The Archives will consult with a patron who requests archival resources through a communication support or accessible format at no cost or fee, and strive to accommodate the request wherever possible.
The possibility of providing archival resources in an accessible format will be determined on a case-by-case basis with regards to technical feasibility, physical condition, or undue hardship to the Archives in accordance with The Accessibility for Manitobans Act. Alternative format requests which may constitute an undue hardship under the provisions in the Act would include excessively voluminous requests or for records that are either too fragile or too rare to digitize.
